Serving the Body with my body

Practicing modesty and taking a stand against rape are not mutually exclusive.

As a Christian, I find it difficult to reconcile statement the “my body, my rules” with the Biblical witness. If I am a Christian, this means I am part of the Body, that is the church. And this means serving my brothers and sisters who are in the Body with my body.

Rapists are wrong and should be held accountable for their wrongdoing. But as a member of the Body, I should also serve those who are in the Body by practicing modesty —by wearing clothing that do not cause those who are struggling with lust and pornography to stumble and fall. This is not victim-blaming, this is a call to obedience and submission to God’s Word.

If I show love to my neighbors by wearing a mask for the sake of public health, I should also serve my brothers and sisters with my body and this entails modesty. If I am concerned for the physical health of those around me, shouldn’t I be all the more concerned about their spiritual welfare?

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (2 Corinthians 6:19–20, ESV)

Yes, I am well aware that the context of this passage is sexual immorality. And that is precisely my point.
